How I Knew I Was Burned Out—And What I Did to Completely Transform My Life

How I Knew I Was Burned Out—And What I Did to Completely Transform My Life

If you’re a woman in healthcare running on fumes, just trying to keep your head above water, this story is for you.

About 10 years ago, I found myself in a place so many nurses know all too well: completely exhausted, overworked, and questioning if I could keep living like this. I was in nurse practitioner (NP) school at the time, juggling intense clinical hours and academic pressure—on top of working.

On the outside, it probably looked like I was holding it together. Honestly, I was overdelivering like so many of us do. But on the inside? My body was waving every red flag it could find:

  • Constant anxiety

  • Insomnia

  • Heart palpitations

  • Zero energy

  • Thyroid issues I kept brushing off

Burnout wasn’t just knocking at the door—it had moved in, unpacked its bags, and was running the whole damn show. I ignored the whispers, then the talking, until my body started screaming. And still, like so many women in healthcare, I kept pushing through.

Until I just… couldn’t anymore.

The Turning Point: Choosing Myself

There wasn’t one lightning bolt moment, but rather a slow, undeniable truth that crept in: this could not be my life story. I wasn’t meant to just survive my career. I wanted to actually feel good. Imagine that!

So instead of trying to outrun burnout, I made a radical decision—I decided to actually learn how to heal. I didn’t want a quick fix. I wanted real, lasting change. Something I could sustain.

Once I graduated and started working as a nurse practitioner, I finally had a schedule that allowed for breathing room—three 12-hour shifts a week felt like a gift after years of doing the absolute most.

And you know what I did with that extra time?

I recovered.

What Healing Actually Looked Like for Me

I didn’t just bounce back—I rebuilt. Slowly. Intentionally.
I restarted my yoga practice. I learned how to calm and support my nervous system in ways I didn’t even know were possible. I reconnected with rest. I allowed myself to live a soft, slow, and sustainable life.

The kind of life that felt nourishing, not depleting. The kind of life where I wasn’t always in survival mode.

And for the first time, I felt in charge—of my career, my money, my health, and my time.
I stopped following the script of what I thought I should do, and started building a life based on what I actually wanted.

And guess what?
That life felt so damn good, I knew I couldn’t keep it to myself.

From Burned Out to Business Owner

Long story short, that’s what brought me here—doing the work I do now: helping other women in healthcare reclaim their time, energy, and freedom, so they can live fulfilling, balanced, healthy lives without burning out in the process.

Because yes, you can build a career you love and have a life that feels like your own.

And no, you don’t have to wait until you “have time” or hit rock bottom. Your body is probably already whispering to you. Maybe even talking. Please don’t wait until it screams.
